To keep us focused on the Fair Housing Month, let’s have a quick review of Article 10. SOP 10-3 says,“REALTORS® shall not print, display or circulate any statement or advertisement with respect to selling or renting of a property that indicates any preference, limitations or discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status,or national origin.”
SOP 10-4 says,“As used in Article 10 “real estate employment practices” relates to employees and independent contractors providing real estate-related services and the administrative and clerical staff directly supporting those individuals.”
The final two standards of practice in this Article are clear and direct. In conjunction with Article 12 regarding REALTOR® advertising,we must be honest and also not discriminating in our messages. As employers to any real estate related staff, our obligation is to train our staff members to mirror our commitment to equal opportunity and fair housing in all their dealings as a REALTOR® staff member. We should make sure the staff, assistant,or volunteer assisting us is equally committed to fair housing and reflects our commitment in their conversations and contacts, too.
